Positive signs for the 2022/2023 milk campaign on two fronts: both on the recognition of milk payments to breeders, and on cheese sales, with Pecorino Romano having obtained absolute prices better than Italian and world PDOs.
The data were illustrated by Legacoop Sardegna: from February to May, the price per kilogram of Pecorino Romano remained stable at 14.05 euros with a slight contraction from June, considered physiological by experts in the sector, given that the price always remains above 13 euros. "This contraction on the selling price - observes Legacoop - mainly due to the increase in consumption in general and the increase of 12.26% of the production of the past dairy campaign equal to 40 thousand quintals more and the addition of the important gap compared to grana vaccine products (Parmigiano Reggiano and Grana Padano), calls us to set up a preventive organization of the next campaign, as well as, a careful evaluation of future scenarios and the development of foreign markets, especially Asian". In the meantime, the processing cooperatives have recorded a remuneration to members above 1.80 euros, with peaks above 2 euros.
"Today we take stock three years after the start of a path that has seen an increase in the price of Pecorino and in the remuneration of milk, with an advantage for the cooperators - said Daniele Caddeo, general manager of Legacoop - today we decided to do this initiative in the presence of representatives of cooperatives to explain how the market has gone". Claudio Atzori, president of Legacoop Sardegna and national vice president emphasized results and change. "The world has given a remarkable to the growth of this region, 220 countries in our region where they are firsteconomic activities and sector that has transformed history - said Atzori -. Many young people are returning to family businesses with degrees in their pockets and many businesses are moving towards sustainability."
