If you can't cope with your regular income in everyday life, you don't have to change jobs right away. Because with some part-time jobs, your budget can be significantly improved.
Part-time jobs basically mean flexible mini-jobs, which are usually carried out alongside a regular main job or alongside a degree. In addition to the more time-consuming, actual employment, this secondary activity is rather small. While you can take on several mini-jobs, you must not exceed the income limit of 520 euros. Otherwise, you may incur additional costs, such as higher social security contributions.
Working hours | maximum salary | |
---|---|---|
Pupil | 8 hours a day (15 hours 2 years ago) | 520 euros (tax-free) |
Student | 20 hours per week | 9,984 euros per year (tax-free) |
Unemployed | 14 hours per week | depending on unemployment benefit |
Part-time jobs – not only suitable for pupils and students
When it comes to part-time jobs, people like to think of teenagers and young adults who deliver newspapers on weekends or work in gastronomy to supplement their pocket money. But although flexible working is also very popular with minors, mini-jobs are suitable for various age groups and life situations.

Whether you want to improve your household budget outside of your regular working hours or your pension in old age, there is something for everyone with the wide range of offers and some part-time jobs can even be done from the comfort of your own home. And with the best-paid mini-jobs, you can even earn up to 29 euros per hour.
The way to extra income
If you are thinking about looking for a part-time job, there are a few things to consider. If you do not have a permanent employment contract due to a main activity, you can start searching immediately. If you are already permanently employed, your employer may insist with the employment or collective agreement that you inform them when you start a secondary job. However, your supervisor cannot prohibit you from taking up a part-time job outside of your working hours.
As the finance website gruender.de reports, mini-jobs are in principle not taxable as long as the income limit of 520 euros is not exceeded. If you earn beyond that, the part-time job must be noted in your tax return.
Test new products at home and earn money on the side
For many people, this is a work dream come true. You work from your living room, are free to choose your working hours and, depending on the company, are rewarded with gifts, a commission or a fixed hourly salary.

My Area
As the name suggests, as a product tester, you test new products that have not yet appeared on the market and then evaluate them. All you have to do is register with the company of your choice. Companies use these vacancies as online advertising and can also use the results for market research purposes.
Earn extra money in gastronomy
Whether as a waiter, barista, bartender or kitchen assistant – the catering industry offers job seekers many different ways to help out, even on a minor scale. While in some areas, such as barista or bartender, you should have some previous knowledge of gastronomy, other jobs such as waitressing can usually be mastered without it.
If you already have a café, bakery or restaurant in mind where you would like to help out, it is often worthwhile to simply ask proactively. There is usually a need even without a specific job advertisement, especially in smaller companies.

Earn money while driving – part-time jobs in the car
If you like to drive a car, are 21 years old and have at least two years of driving experience (at least for the job of a taxi driver), you probably don't have to think twice about the desire for a part-time job. Whether as a newspaper carrier, vehicle transporter or as a taxi or Uber driver, enthusiastic and safe drivers who do not shy away from very early or late working hours do not have a hard time looking for a job.
Especially in big cities, taxi drivers are always in demand. And even as a vehicle transporter, you have a good chance of finding a relaxed job with the appropriate prerequisites. After all, your job is simply to drive cars that have been parked in another city back to the car rental company.
Part-time job as a harvest worker – earning extra money in the fresh air
For example, if you are looking for variety in the fresh air in addition to an office job, you should consider working as a harvest worker. The work is based on the harvest times. Once the fruit and vegetables to be harvested are ready, the harvest can take up several consecutive days, depending on the extent. Accordingly, this is not a permanent secondary activity.
An additional income can also be secured as a cleaner
If you don't mind private housework and are looking for a part-time job where you keep moving, the job of a cleaner is not a bad option. Cleaners are always in demand not only in private households, but also in offices, museums and various public buildings. So you can often clean the empty rooms in the evening, at night or in the morning in peace and quiet and listen to music or an audio book, for example.
