A frozen product of Kaufland's own brand is affected by a current recall. For certain people, there is a risk to health.
Munich – The supermarket chain Kaufland is currently affected by a recall campaign. A manufacturer must withdraw a frozen product from circulation.
Consumers who have frozen vegetables in their freezer should now take a close look at the products. Because the "K-Classic grilled vegetables 750g" from Kaufland should not be consumed by some people under any circumstances. The reason for the recall is a mistake made by the manufacturer: an important allergen label is missing on the product. Cheese sold at Kaufland has also been recalled.
Frozen vegetables from Kaufland: Manufacturer launches urgent recall
"It cannot be ruled out that the product in question contains soybeans (edamame pods). The allergen soy is not declared on the packaging," the manufacturer informs in a statement on the recall. For people with a soy allergy, this can have serious consequences. According to the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR), typical symptoms of an allergic reaction due to a food allergy are the following:
- Skin rash, itching, hives (urticaria), eczema
- Urge to sneeze, permanent runny nose
- Swollen and watery eyes
- Respiratory reactions such as asthma
- Shortness of breath or swelling of the mucous membranes of the mouth
- Nausea, diarrhea, flatulence or inflammation of the stomach and intestinal mucosa
The most severe allergic reaction is anaphylactic shock, which can lead to failure of the cardiovascular system and thus to death and therefore requires rapid, targeted medical action, the BfR informs. Affected persons should therefore pay urgent attention to the Kaufland recall. "Customers who are not allergic to soy can consume the product without hesitation," informs the manufacturer CN Deutschland GmbH.

In the EU, the labelling of allergens is mandatory for packaged and unpackaged foods, as required by the EU Food Information Regulation (LMIV). This is because certain ingredients are particularly likely to trigger allergic reactions. (sne)
