The Miu Miu Spring/Summer 2024 collection designed by Miuccia Prada that shows in Paris, seeks a new definition of the concept of beauty. In an ever-changing world, beauty must reflect the complexity of our age. Quotations from past styles emphasize the importance and significance of history. The traces of life mark the clothes: washing, tearing, suede and marked skins, an amplification of the passage of time that is an expression of previous use, of existing love.
Garments designed for specific motifs and events are re-proposed in unexpected combinations: a maillot de bain with a cocktail dress, a petticoat with a blazer. The juxtapositions convey a modern style which, in turn, is a mirror of different lives. On the platform parade swimwear, sportswear, evening dresses, jeans and trousers with a low waist again. Men's swimwear, kid-mohair tailoring, dated underwear, New Balance 530, Church's Shanghai, elegant embroidered and brocade dresses. Expression of divergent ideals of beauty, these garments are combined in a surprising way to convey a plurality of beauties. The interventions born from the dialogue between Miu Miu and contemporary artists are never conceived as an ornament of fashion. For this season, Qatari-American artist Sophia Al-Maria set Miu Miu's show in a landscape of technological ruins, an imaginary story within the walls of the Palais d'Iéna created in collaboration with Oma. The work Gravity & Grace, expressly created by Al-Maria, depicts a confrontation between reality and fantasy, a reflection of the spirit of his work in its entirety. Through it, the artist explores the meaning of narration, retracing the history of humanity to the present day: to pass on the past, share the present and imagine the future. The cast included Eddy Aldridge, May Andersen, Mame Bineta Sane, Petra Collins, Rosemary Ferguson, Amelia Gray Hamlin, Gigi Hadid, Troye Sivan, Liu Wen, Karolin Wolter and Cailee Spaeny who closed the show.
