Produced by Sky and Viola Prestieri for HT Film, L'arte della gioia is based on the homonymous posthumous novel by Goliarda Sapienza (Einaudi), rejected for a long time by Italian publishing houses until reaching success abroad. And tells of Modesta (Tecla Insolia), unscrupulous, sensual and courageous girl of Sicily at the beginning of '900. A period fresco with a direction: the personal path of emancipation, including sexual emancipation, that led Modesta in those years to claim for a woman the right to pleasure and happiness.
"I learned a lot, it frustrated me three times more than a film can frustrate you: I was handling a beautiful subject, very difficult to transpose, in which I was always in danger of falling especially during the writing lasted three years and I do not brag. I tried to get the most important things that Goliarda wanted to convey to us, simplifying them without superficiality. Something that is difficult when you have a beautiful book, not so much as a rough feuilletton but for its intuitions, introspections. The cast includes Jasmine Trinca as Leonora, mother superior of the convent where Modesta will be welcomed as a child; Guido Caprino Carmine, the man who manages the lands of the Villa del Carmelo, home of the Brandiforti, Leonora's noble and wealthy family; Alma Noce is Beatrice, the youngest heir of the Brandiforte family, led by Princess Gaia, played by Valeria Bruni Tedeschi. It is a golden moment for the actresses-directors (at the Rome Film Festival the debuts of Paola Cortellesi and Margherita Buy are expected), "but also actors - she adds, remembering Claudio Bisio and Luca Zingaretti -: it is a favorable moment, it is nice that they give us this opportunity, then as always and as for everyone we have to see if the work is good, in that case there is a trace of it, otherwise it is only chronicle".
