Brazil's two largest cities, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro respectively, recorded their highest temperatures of 2023 on Sunday.
In the megalopolis of São Paulo, thermometers registered 36.9 degrees, surpassing the 36.5 degrees recorded on ;; September 24.
In Rio, where the beaches were stormed, the temperature was even higher: in Irajá, in the northern part of the city, it was 42.5 degrees. The previous peak was observed on 17 February, with 41.8 degrees.
According to the Alerta Rio system (the municipal weather station), the thermal sensation in Irajá, around 13:55 local time yesterday (17:55 Italian time), reached 50.5 degrees.
