Strong winds and heavy rains: from South Tyrol to the Marches, bad weather is now affecting various regions, where damage of all kinds and numerous interventions by the fire brigade and Civil Protection are recorded.

Snow chaos in Tyrol, South Tyrol split in two

Snow chaos in Tyrol and South Tyrol split in two, with 30 centimeters of snow at the Brenner Pass and further south rain even at high altitudes. This is what the first taste of this winter looks like.

On the northern side of the border ridge, in Austria, up to 60 centimeters of snow have fallen in the past few hours, causing closures and delays not only on roads but also for rail connections, as well as to Munich and Salzburg. In Tyrol, 4,000 customers are currently without electricity.

South Tyrol, on the other hand, is divided: in the north, with the arrival of cold air from Austria, snow falls to low altitudes, while in the south - due to the warm current that pushes from Italy - it rains up to 1500-2000 meters. As the hours go by, the phenomena will end in the valleys thanks to the arrival of the Föhn, while in the mountains they will continue until the afternoon, according to the weather report of the Province of Bolzano.

Tornado in the night in Bojano, extensive damage

Extensive damage in the Matesina area due to strong winds. During the night, many interventions by the Fire Brigade to deal with emergencies. The most affected area is that of Bojano (Campobasso) where a whirlwind damaged several cars. In the city there were also roofs and extensive damage with some streets invaded by glass, bricks, branches, billboards.

Waves over 4 meters, maritime traffic suspended at the port of Livorno

Maritime traffic suspended in the port of Livorno due to prohibitive weather and sea conditions. Since this morning around 5 a.m., the Libeccio wind above 50 knots, as reported by the port's Maritime Advisor, with waves over 4 meters has paralyzed the activities at the quay, preventing
the docking of ships and ferries. At the moment, connections with the islands are suspended.

The last two entrances to the port were around 3.40 a.m. those of the Mega Express 2 coming from Golfo Aranci, which anticipated the docking, and at 5.40 a.m., with some difficulty despite the two tugboats in support, of the Moby Vincent, also coming from Sardinia. In the Piombino channel, on the other hand, there are regular connections to the island of Elba, confirmed by the Piombino harbour master's office, apart from the Blue Navy company which has suspended the
Acciarello ferry.

Due to the very strong storm, the Civil Protection of the Municipality of Livorno - which due to the orange alert for wind and storm surges today had already ordered the closure of parks and cemeteries - closed Viale Italia, on the seafront, between Piazza San Jacopo and Via Forte dei Cavalleggeri, to traffic. The day of galloping races at the Caprilli racecourse was also cancelled due to strong winds. Sistema Cavallo, the company that manages the facility, announces that the conditions do not exist to carry out the scheduled day of racing safely.

During the night, showers and thunderstorms were recorded, as reported around 3 a.m. by Governor Eugenio Giani on social media, "in particular over the northwestern areas, extending eastwards in the next few hours, which led to the rise in river levels in these areas. The Magra in Villafranca in Lunigiana has passed the first warning level and is located at about 2.5 meters".

With regard to the province of Florence, the Civil Protection of the Metrocity informs, over a period of three hours, from about 4 to 7 a.m., widespread rainfall
(maximum cumulative 42 mm in Nave di Rosano) but regular levels of the main waterways while "rainfall, associated with local gusts of wind, are causing local criticalities to the viability with debris and branches on the road surface".

"In Marina di Pisa, where there are storm surges and gusts of 112km/h, sea water has entered the streets causing flooding.
Work is underway for some trees that have fallen due to the strong wind," Giani said. Firefighters and Civil
Protection are also at work on site to deal with falling unsafe branches and roof tiles. Marina di Pisa had been hit by a very strong storm, with flooding and inconvenience,
also on November 3rd.

Strong winds or gales from the southwest persisted over Liguria during the night with gusts of up to 90-100 kilometers per hour on the La Spezia coast and widely over 120-140 kilometers per hour on the most exposed Apennine ridges, the maximum gust of 143 kilometers per hour was recorded in Tanadorso in the province of Genoa. These are the data recorded by the Ligurian Regional Agency for the Protection of the Environment (Arpal).

On the state road 586 in the Municipality of Borzonasca, at the junction for Levaggi, a landslide swept away a public transport shelter without causing injuries. Anas technicians are on site.

The sea in Liguria is rough with southerly swells on the exposed coasts, the most significant wave of 3.4 meters was recorded from the La Spezia buoy. The new violent storm is scourging the Ligurian East with waves that lap the railway line in Lavagna and the Via Aurelia in the locality of S. Anna in Sestri Levante. Due to the debris carried by the waves, via Colombo in Riva Trigoso and via Pilade Queirolo in Sestri Levante were closed to traffic.

In the last few hours, widespread rainfall, including moderate showers, more persistent in the inland areas of the East. In the Genoese area, the peak of the flood passed through the sections of the Trebbia and Aveto, no particular criticalities were reported. In La Spezia the peak of the Magra flood is passing through these moments. At the moment, no particular criticalities related to the transit of the flood are expected.

Gusts of wind, fallen trees and inconvenience in the Rimini area

The strong gusts of wind that have been blowing over the Rimini area since last night have caused, in the province, the fall of branches and trees on the ground, even on the roadway. According to what has been learned, 150 interventions have been carried out by the Fire Brigade - in constant collaboration with the Civil Protection and the police - while reports of inconveniences related to the gusts of 'garbino', a hot wind that has been blowing since yesterday, continue.

In the past few hours, Arpae and the regional Civil Protection had issued an orange alert for the strong wind over several areas of Emilia-Romagna as well as a red alert, for today, for the risk of landslides, runoff and river floods in the Reggio Emilia and Parma plains.

Due to the gusts of wind blowing over the Rimini area, electricity pylons would have been damaged, again according to what has been learned, and inconveniences would have been recorded for the scaffolding in some construction sites.

AIPO; alert for Emilian rivers, attention to the flooding of the Enza

Of particular importance, it is highlighted, "the ongoing flood of the Enza", in the Parma area, "which could reach threshold 3 of criticality in Sorbolo late this morning, but also of Taro and Parma, for which the expansion tank has come into operation again, and of the Secchia".

In the face of the situation, the AIPO continues in a note, the staff "has been active since yesterday, during last night and for the entire period affected by the flood phenomena, in order to implement monitoring operations, management of hydraulic works and possible emergency intervention in case of need, in coordination with all the bodies of the local and regional civil protection systems".

On the other hand, there is a risk of tragedy in Spoltore, where a large pine tree collapsed on the road in the city center, fortunately falling on the
space between two houses. The tree, which is at least 50 years old, cut the road, blocking it and damaging a fence wall: a little further on, it would have fallen on the houses: according to what has been learned, the intervention of the firefighters who intervened will be long to secure the area and eliminate the problem.
