If harmful substances have found their way into food during production, they often have to be recalled. Now a UHT milk from Edeka is affected.

Munich – Errors in production can cause bacteria, packaging materials or other harmful substances to get into food. Contaminated products are then usually affected by a recall – now it is the UHT milk of the Edeka house brand that is affected.

Recall at Edeka: UHT milk from Gut&Billig contains impurities

The recall concerns a UHT milk from the manufacturer Hohenloher Molkerei eG. Whole UHT milk with 3.5 percent fat may contain microbiological contaminants. As a result, it can happen that the milk becomes thick and sour and triggers health impairments. "For reasons of precautionary consumer protection, Hohenloher Molkerei eG is recalling the article Gut&Billig UHT Whole Milk 3.5% fat (1 litre)," it said in a statement.

As the manufacturer further informs, only the federal states of Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Hesse, Saxony and Thuringia are affected. The contamination was noticed during a routine inspection. As Hohenloher Molkerei eG informs, the cause of the contamination was "established beyond doubt and immediately remedied." Only goods with a best-before date of March 27, 2024 and the oval health mark DE BW 010 EG are affected by the recall. Recently, a fish product from Edeka also had to be recalled.

The purchase price of the milk affected by the recall will be refunded in full

According to the company, the batch affected by the recall was offered and sold exclusively at regional level in individual markets. In addition to Edeka, this also includes some Marktkauf stores in the aforementioned federal states. In cooperation with the affected retailers, the affected products have been completely withdrawn from sale with immediate effect.

Anyone who still has the affected Gut&Billig UHT milk at home can return it for a refund of the purchase price. It is not necessary to present the receipt, the purchase price will be refunded in full even without it. Other batches of UHT milk are not affected by the recall and therefore cannot be returned.
