"I'm really proud of myself this ride." Federica Brignone rejoices after her encore victory in the giant slalom in Mont Trembland. "You couldn't really see anything in the second run - says the Italian champion -, the weather conditions were really difficult and worsened minute by minute. At that point no one could stay in front of Direz, between one heat and the other I was talking to my brother Davide and we told each other that in the last month we have often found these conditions, I had to be ready. So I came out of the gate with the right anger after the first moto, I was convinced and I tried to give my best, obviously I had the sun inside me. Courage in these conditions is very important and at the same time to be aware of what you are doing and think about how to ski, because you can't see on the ground.
You have to work a lot with sensitivity, remember where you are on the track and even if your body can freeze, you have to try to go against your will."
With the success in Canada, Brignone brings Italy to 122 victories in the history of the Women's Scialpino World Cup. With 23 victories, the Aosta Valley native overtakes SofiaGoggia (22) at the top of the all-time winners' list: behind the two champions Deborah Compagnoni with 16 victories.
