A book gift for Christmas is the classic par excellence. The Christmas season offers the perfect story for a new children's book by Emma Thompson. A year ago, Emma Thompson published "Jim's Spectacular Christmas" in collaboration with Gruffalo author and illustrator Axel Scheffler. A charming Christmas story that can also be read aloud with the family. Just in time for Christmas, the German translation of the book is available. And "Jim's Brilliant Christmas" has everything you need for a (Christmas) classic.

Emma Thompson reports in a dry and charming way not only about Jim, but also about the first Christmas card ever printed and everything associated with Christmas – including compassion for animals and people. It is extremely pleasing how she combines the story, which is based on actual events, with a moving Christmas story – and how brilliantly the illustrator of Gruffalo, Axel Scheffler, translates them into images.

Jim is the soul of a dog who lives alongside Sir Henry Cole in a magnificent museum in London. He is an avid reader, which is why he is very saddened that his eyesight is deteriorating more and more. When he spots a monocle on one of his errands to Buckingham Palace, his heart skips a beat and he can't resist.

Henry Cole, Jim and the First Christmas Card: A Piece of British Cultural History

"Jim's Brilliant Christmas" is a piece of British cultural history. Henry Cole not only organized the first World's Fair in London in 1851, but also made a name for himself as an inventor in the field of postal services. The first printed Christmas card can be traced back to him. For Emma Thompson, it made sense to weave this into the book and immortalize dog Jim as the bearer of the card in Buckingham Palace.

And the Reading Foundation is also enthusiastic about Emma Thompson's Christmas title. So it is a perfect story that captures the Christmas setting and allows for many occasions for conversation. Thus, the book definitely belongs on the bookshelf with these six titles.

He completed his studies in art history in his hometown of Hamburg and (according to his own biography) was able to win a purple plush cow in a drawing competition in 1978, a duck down pillow in 1981 and from 1982 to 1985 he studied graphics in Corsham near Bath, England.
