Highlights: The 34th edition of Il Sole 24 Ore has been published. It is the first time since 1990 that the city of Milan has been in the top ten. Foggia is the only city in the South to make it into the top 10. The rest of the list is made up of cities in the north, south and east of Italy. The city of Rome is in the bottom ten, while Bologna is in 17th place and Milan is in 18th. The list was compiled by the Italian news agency ANSA.

Udine is the best city to live in Italy. The 34th edition of Il Sole 24 Ore's survey on the quality of life crowns the Friulian province, the results of which were published in the newspaper on newsstands today. It is the first time that the province of Udine has climbed to the top step, thus entering the history of the ranking that measures the well-being of the population, after having placed in the top ten only three times since 1990. On the other hand, the second and third places of Bologna, winner of the 2022 edition, and Trento sound more like confirmations.

Bergamo (this year's capital of culture together with Brescia) rises to fifth place. Milan is also among the top ten. While Rome stops at thirty-fifth place, losing four positions.

Also in the second half of the ranking, this edition shows a concentration of cities in the South, with the only exception of Cagliari in 23rd place.

Closing the standings is Foggia, who returns to wear the black jersey after twelve years. It is preceded by Caltanissetta and then Naples in third last place which, despite the 'shield effect' on tourism (not detected in the data examined), is penalized - according to the survey - by population density, recovering predatory crime, poor employment data and an unfavorable migration balance.
