Roasted almonds are a traditional snack that should not be missing at any Christmas market. For centuries, they have been made according to almost the same recipe.

Little by little, the anticipation of the Advent season increases and at the latest, when one Christmas market after the other opens, the time has come: You can feast to your heart's content from stall to stall. In addition to the obligatory mulled wine, which often becomes a special delicacy due to the homemade mulled wine spice of the individual stalls, a hearty hand bread with ham and cheese should not be missing in southern Germany. Another classic are crispy potato pancakes with apple sauce or sweet roasted almonds, peanuts & co.

Thanks to the simple standard recipe, you can prepare the candy at home for a fraction of the money. In addition to the advantage that your own account is spared, there are now always roasted almonds - whether the Christmas market is open or not.
And speaking of fractions: With roasted almonds, you can conjure up a delicious DIY gift from the kitchen for Christmas in the form of a broken chocolate with roasted almonds.

By the way, if you have shied away from treats with caramel, such as stuffed baked apples with caramel crumble, due to the high cleaning effort, you will certainly be happy about this tip: Instead of stubbornly scrubbing the pan with steel sponge and co., you can simply fill the container to the brim with water and let it boil until the caramel comes off on its own. Brilliant, isn't it?

The preparation is really simple, you just need a little patience:

  • Easy Tasty Tip: For extra crunchy and aromatic roasted almonds, you can briefly roast the almonds in a pan without oil before caramelizing.
  • Put water in a pan and mix with the sugar, vanilla sugar and cinnamon. Bring to a boil and simmer until the sugar is completely dissolved.
  • Add the almonds and stir with a wooden spoon. Simmer, stirring, until the water has evaporated and a crystalline layer forms over the almonds.
  • Now reduce the heat a little and continue stirring until the crystal layer turns into shiny caramel and envelops the almonds with it. This takes up to ten minutes, but patience pays off.
  • Spread the roasted almonds over a large area on baking paper and allow to cool completely.
  • Bang – done!
