A frustrating ritual in winter: scraping ice on the car. But it's also quick, easy and without an ice scraper. A home remedy will help with this.
Munich – Winter is here. Especially in southern Germany, snow and ice are already raging at the beginning of December. It also gets really cold: down to -15 degrees in the mountains and in Schleswig-Holstein. Drivers know what's coming next: icy windows that make it necessary to scrape ice on the car. Annoying.
Ice scraping on the car without an ice scraper: this home remedy works wonders against frost
Especially in the morning, scraping ice on the car is often tiresome. Who doesn't know it: It's supposed to be fast, but then you have to scrape the window free. This costs time and nerves.
Fortunately, there are numerous tricks to make scraping ice on the car window easier and faster. Above all, a home remedy helps. And this also works without an ice scraper.

The magic remedy for frost: a de-icer spray. It's very easy to make at home. To do this, pour vinegar and water into a spray bottle in a three-to-one ratio (three parts vinegar, one part water). And you'll be ready for the next windshield frost. Simply spray the mixture on the icy areas and the frost will disappear in a few seconds.
No more ice scraping on the car: vinegar and water mixture also prevents icy windows
The vinegar and water mixture also helps to prevent ice scraping on the car. If you spray the home remedy on the car windows before the night, the windows remain ice-free. The trick behind this is that the vinegar-water mixture has a lower freezing temperature than water.

Although acetic acid freezes at 17 degrees Celsius, the mixture does not. Behind this is an effect called freezing point depression. When the mixture of vinegar and water freezes, not only must the water molecules crystallize, but also the bond to the vinegar molecules must be broken. This costs energy. In our case: more cold.
However, the vinegar and water method only helps at moderate minus temperatures. If the temperatures drop far below zero, you can help yourself with high-proof alcohol (for example, washing alcohol or spirits, alcohol such as vodka should be avoided). A salt-water mixture also works as an alternative to scratching the windshield on the car. However, it is important to note that the salt grains have completely dissolved in the water before applying it to the disc.
Beware of the water method in winter: temperature difference can damage windows
Attention: A common misconception is that hot water solves the frost problem even better. However, you should never pour boiling water over frozen slices. This is also a warning from the ADAC.
Even though it sounds logical to fight ice with heat, the cooking water method is too extreme. Due to the large temperature differences, cracks can appear or, in the worst case, the panes can even burst completely. You should also not use lukewarm water, baby powder and walnuts can help against fogged up windows. (moe)
