Between Rai and Telethon, "there are 34 years of collaboration but we carry them well in terms of ideas, initiatives and commitment. I think this combination is a true example of public service." This is what Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, president of the Telethon Foundation, says when talking about 'Let's make them great together', the 34th edition of the television marathon for the Telethon Foundation on the Rai networks. It starts on Saturday 9 December, in prime time on Rai 1, during the episode of "Dancing with the Stars" hosted by Milly Carlucci. Closing the marathon will be Carlo Conti on 17 December, with the episode of "NaTale e Quale Speciale Telethon" always in prime time on Rai 1 and followed by the last slot of the Telethon studio. In addition, throughout the week, the Rai channels will broadcast content on the Telethon Foundation with a total of 19 hours of live broadcasts. The "day time" Marathon will be conducted by Tiberio Timperi, Arianna Ciampoli and Paolo Belli, with the exception of two bands that will be entrusted to Eleonora Daniele and Francesca Fialdini.

During the marathon there will also be a short film made ad hoc by Laura Luchetti (director of La Bella estate and the Rai series Play Nudes, among others), which tells the journey to Rome, with her family, of Arshida, an Iranian girl suffering from Hurler syndrome, who has been following therapy in Italy since 2019 thanks to Telethon. "As a public service, we feel it is our mission to spread the culture of awareness and we strongly support research into rare diseases. Solidarity is one of the pillars on which the public service is based," explains Rai president Marinella Soldi in a video message. Only "an effort of collective activation, which involves the whole of society, can make it possible to give hope, therapies and a future to children and all people with a rare genetic disease, and to their families," adds the CEO of the public service Roberto Sergio. Our commitment "is to push even more on research - explains di Montezemolo - we have arrived at many therapies. The last one is for the so-called 'bubble children', those who do not have immune defenses and are forced to live in aseptic places. Unfortunately, pharmaceutical companies do not consider it profitable to invest in these medicines and so we have decided, and we are the first in the world, for foundations like ours, to produce and distribute these medicines. So, let's donate (it will be possible until December 31 by calling from a landline or sending a text message to the number 45510) It is a fundamental moment, everyone has understood the importance of research, something of which many have become even more aware after covid".

At the moment, "we have many diseases for which clinical trials are underway," explains Francesca Pasinelli, Managing Director of the Telethon Foundation. We have made a commitment to try to take over the production of these drugs whenever a company decides, for reasons related to strategy or commercial considerations, to abandon therapies for these diseases. We will do our best, it took us about a year to equip ourselves to do it, with the first of the therapies and we have shown that we are capable. We start from the idea that no one should be left behind." To support scientific research on rare genetic diseases, 3,000 squares throughout Italy will also return to the Chocolate Hearts, distributed by volunteers from various associations on 10, 16 and 17 December.
