A candle-lighting ceremony was held today (Thursday) at Sheba Rehabilitation Hospital, in the presence of President Herzog, the director of Sheba, the head of the ACA, and with the participation of soldiers and civilians hospitalized in rehabilitation.
First Lieutenant Eden Ram, who was wounded by 12 bullets fired at the Urim Home Front Command base, said that for the first time she was able to walk on her feet: "I am excited to stand before you alive and breathing, rehabilitating and coming back to life. On the morning of October 7, I woke up to a missile attack at the Urim base where I serve to hours of terror and anxiety during which we were subjected to a terrorist attack. The war room turned from a place where we found shelter to a bloody battlefield.

"No less than 12 bullets pierced my body that Saturday. There was fighting in which we lost many friends. Another soldier and I lay side by side and managed to get a tourniquet. The difficult moments will accompany me forever. I had hard thoughts about whether I was even alive and if I would be able to hold on. In moments when I thought they were the last of my life, I sent messages to my family that I loved them and that they would pray for me. But then a miracle called me and I was saved by fighters who lost their lives in battle against the terrorists and rescued me. At the hospital, I was born again. Every day I take another step in my rehabilitation journey. Just yesterday I was back on my feet for the first time," she said to applause. "At Sheba there are people who do holy work and remind us that the power lies in the love of man. This is where the actual revival takes place. The people of Israel are alive," she added.

President Herzog said: "Every year we sing 'We have come darkness to expel us' and this year we will sing even louder. Wherever IDF soldiers, civilians, terror victims are located, and especially here in the Rehabilitation Division. We promise to banish the darkness and restore the light to all citizens of Israel. This holiday is a symbol of the heroism of the Maccabees. And this year, when we are in a war, the supreme Maccabean heroism is much more felt.

"We describe the heroism of the Maccabees but think of you. You are the soldiers, soldiers and civilians, you are our Maccabees and the heroes of this time. Some of you that Shabbat were immediately jumped. Others joined. You fought like lions to the last bullet and sometimes to the last breath. The terrorists were wrong, they will never subdue us. We have national resilience and endless strength, and you are proof of that. IDF soldiers are fighting with full force."
