An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.8 shook downtown Mexico City on Thursday, Mexico's seismological service said.
Residents went out into the streets of the capital when the seismic alert sounded shortly after 14 p.m. local time (21 p.m. in France), AFP found. The epicenter was located in the state of Puebla, southwest of the megacity of more than nine million inhabitants.
For now, there are no further details regarding possible damage or casualties.
