The promise was beautiful: a nice bonus for caregivers who chose to give up their vacation to work during the Olympic Games. It is with this "carrot" in mind that the staff of the sixty or so front-line departments at the AP-HP - whose 38 establishments and 100,000 employees make up the largest hospital in Europe - were called upon to formulate their wishes for a summer holiday before the beginning of December.

Except that after handing in their summer schedule, many volunteers are blown away. "I can't believe it. "We all organised ourselves to work during the Games," said a doctor, who preferred to remain anonymous. And now our department head is telling us that not everyone will get the bonus.
