"A draw would have left me feeling positive, but instead we lost another game that should have given us momentum." Stefano Pioli, AC Milan coach, commented on the defeat in stoppage time against Atalanta: "There is disappointment, because we wanted to give continuity to the results.
In the first half we had what we needed to put Atalanta in trouble, but we didn't convert. After resuming it at 2-2 we gave the feeling that we could push to win it until Calabria's expulsion which changed the cards on the table."
Pioli did not hide his team's shortcomings: "Conceding three goals like we conceded is really heavy. On a tactical level, we conceded a few changes of play and several chances, not because we were badly positioned but because we were not able to defend well in certain situations for which we had prepared. And then we are at the fifth expulsion: we have to be less naïve in the management of the cards, we are paying a high price."
The Rossoneri coach is looking ahead to the Champions League match at Newcastle: "We need to turn tonight's disappointment into positive energy for Wednesday night's game, when we will only have one chance. Leao could play. But also tonight we played as we thought, with generosity and energy. Atalanta surprised us at the start of the second half."
