Christmas concert at Palazzo Madama, with a standing ovation for the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella as he entered the Senate Chamber. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Senate President Ignazio La Russa sang Mameli's anthem before the concert with the orchestra and choir of the Arena di Verona foundation, in front of the highest offices of the State and the Apostolic Nuncio.
"Our initiative is now in its twenty-sixth year.
This year we celebrate the art of Italian opera singing, defined as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. On the 150th anniversary of his death, we also wanted to dedicate a central space to Alessandro Manzoni, one of the most important fathers of the Italian language, who will be honored with a reading of some pages of The Betrothed entrusted to Sergio Castellitto. Our language is part of our identity and we must all be united to our Italian identity. We will do so by remembering those who suffer and those who will also be in Italian hospitals and prisons at Christmas, to the many innocent victims of war, to them goes our hope for a just peace that must arrive as soon as possible", said the President of the Senate Ignazio LaRussa before the concert with music by Verdi, Bellini, Puccini, Donizzetti, Rossini.
The event was presented by Milly Carlucci.
