Patricia Highsmith's "The Talented Mr. Ripley" is being remade after 24 years.

The series can be seen on Netflix from April.

“The Talented Mr. Ripley” is the first of five Tom Ripley novels by the American author Patricia Highsmith from 1955. The book was first published in German in 1961 under the title “Only the Sun Was Witness”.

The crime thriller was adapted for the big screen in 1960 and 1999, most recently with Matt Damon and Jude Law in the leading roles.

The new miniseries can be seen on Netflix from April 4th.

In New York in the early 1960s, young Tom Ripley earns his living with sporadic jobs and small scams.

When he accepts a rich man's offer to travel to Italy to persuade his rebellious son to return home, he begins a complicated life marked by deception, fraud and murder.

The drama series is an adaptation of the hugely popular Tom Ripley novels by Patricia Highsmith.

Andrew Scott takes on the role of Tom Ripley, while Dakota Fanning stars as Marge Sherwood.

Johnny Flynn portrays Dickie Greenleaf.

Other members of the ensemble include Eliot Sumner, Maurizio Lombardi, Margherita Buy and John Malkovich.

“Ripley” is the result of a collaboration between production companies Showtime and Endemol Shine North America, Entertainment 360 and Filmrights.

The series is produced by Diogenes' Steven Zaillian, Garrett Basch, Clayton Townsend, Guymon Casady, Ben Forkner, Sharon Levy and Philipp Keel, with Scott also serving as producer.

Steven Zaillian, who also wrote the screenplay, directed all eight episodes.
