She soon tops the ranking of the oldest ponies in the world.

At 55 years old, Frieda is still in great shape.

But the recipe for their record age remains a secret.

Shetty Frieda is 98 centimeters high and “only” 55 years old.

But soon, on April 10th, the Shetland pony will celebrate its 56th birthday.

From then on, Frieda is the oldest living pony in the world, as reported

in other

Frieda now lives happily and contentedly on a sanctuary.

Dog grandma Vanessa, on the other hand, was handed over to the animal shelter “like an old piece of furniture”.

“Really in good shape”: Frieda was saved from the butcher

“The teeth are worn out, the figure is no longer quite athletic, the fur on the head has long since turned gray.

But Frieda is cheerful and trots across the pasture with her herd every day.” That’s what the daily newspaper writes in its cute report about Frieda.

Her owner, Petra Kruse, is almost the same age as her little protégé.

The 54-year-old took Frieda in four years ago after a man saved her from a butcher in Bavaria.

“She’s been in really good shape since then.

A few days ago she actually galloped past me,” the proud horse owner told

The average life expectancy of Shetland ponies is around 25 years; very few reach the age of 40.

At almost 56 years old, Shetty Frieda is a real record pony.

Today Frieda lives with 14 other Shetland ponies on Kruse's 14 hectare farm in Ennepetal, North Rhine-Westphalia.

At Shettyhilfe e.

V. the Shetland mare can spend her twilight years in peace.

According to Bild

, she had to let children ride on her for a riding company in Saxony-Anhalt for 20 years

and then changed hands several times.

One of them even tried to manipulate her age.

With a simple pen line he wanted to increase Frieda's year of birth from 1968 to 1988.

“She doesn’t put up with anything” – Frieda knows exactly what she wants

But no one can fool the black mare so quickly.

Even when she came to the sanctuary, she knew exactly what she wanted, writes Petra Kruse on the Shettyhilfe eV homepage. Frieda “made it clear from the start who was in charge here.

She is high-ranking, gets along well with everyone and doesn't put up with anything." You can also find photos of Frieda on the website.

In her forever home, the Shetty now gets her well-deserved bread and butter: according to the

, this consists of soaked hay, the occasional ripe banana and a lot of love.

According to the report, plucking the grass is no longer going well.

Neither Petra Kruse nor the elderly Shetty's veterinarian can explain Frieda's record age.

“I take it as a gift and am just happy about it.

“It’s just nice to see how comfortable she feels,” Kruse told

.

What is certain, however, is that the mayor of Ennepetal will also be there when Frieda breaks the world record in April.

But Petra Kruse actually only has one wish, as she reveals on her homepage: “We all wish for many more wonderful years with her.”
