The kitchen is a place in the home where several people often come together.

It's even nicer when the right plants create a good ambience there.

Not every houseplant survives in every room.

Temperature, lighting conditions and humidity must match the needs of the plants so that the plant lives healthily and for a long time.

The kitchen is a place in the home where there is often high humidity due to cooking steam.

If you want to equip your kitchen with plants, they should be able to handle them or, at best, even benefit from them.

The selection is large

Many suitable houseplants can be found for the kitchen.

The most well-known include:

  • Bow hemp

  • Succulents

  • Herbs

  • Ivy plant

  • Philodendron

Herbs such as thyme, basil, mint or cress not only grow well in the kitchen, but are also immediately available when cooking is fresh and tasty again.

It's best to place the herbs near or on the windowsill in the kitchen so that they get enough sunlight.

In summer you have to make sure that the plants are not exposed to the blazing midday sun; in winter, heated air is not good for the herbs.

Bow hemp and succulents

Bow hemp is best known as a very robust and easy-care houseplant that also grows wonderfully in the kitchen.

If you still have a free corner, you can easily place a large pot with a magnificent bow hemp there.

The plant does well in medium daylight, so if the corner is a little darker, that's not a problem.

Bow hemp only needs water occasionally and never needs pruning.

If you don't have space for a complete potted plant, you can also use succulents.

The fat plants come in all sorts of shapes, sizes and colors.

They are also very easy to care for because they store water in their leaves and so rarely need to be watered.

They feel most comfortable on a sunny windowsill.

Ivy and Philodendron

The ivy plant is a true climbing champion and is wonderful if you want to decorate your shelves with some greenery.

For example, if you place a small ivy plant at the top of the shelf, the plant will soon find its way down with its stems and leaves.

Depending on your space, you can choose larger or smaller copies.

It also rarely needs irrigation water.

The Philodendron is also a talented climber.

The herbaceous plant loves it when you spray it with water once a week because it absorbs a lot of nutrients and water through the air.

So high humidity is not a problem for this plant.

The soil in the pot should not become bone dry either.

A philodendron feels particularly comfortable in shady places - so if the sun doesn't shine on the kitchen shelf all the time, that's actually good for the plant.
