Greek to Classical, Mathematics to Scientific: the Maturity exam is taking shape which will keep around 500 thousand students in their final year of high school busy starting from 19 June.
Today the Minister of Education, Giuseppe Valditara, signed the decree in which the subjects of the second written test are established: the children of the Classical high school will therefore have to tackle Greek (last year it was Latin), those of the Scientific high school the mathematics, like last year;
the third language of study is proposed at the Linguistics, Human Sciences for the Human Sciences High School.
To the Technical Institutes, Business Economics for the "Administration, Finance and Marketing" branch and Tourism and Business Disciplines for the Tourism branch;
Topography for the address "Buildings, Environment and Territory";
Systems and networks for both sections of the "Informatics and Telecommunications" curriculum;
Multimedia design in the "Graphics and communication" area;
Transformation of products for the "Production and transformation" division of the agricultural institutes.

With this state exam we fully return to pre-covid maturity, to which we already returned last year but, then, taking into account the difficulties that the pandemic had brought.
The exam will therefore have the structure defined by Legislative Decree 62 of 2017: a first written Italian test, common to all study areas, which will take place from 8.30 am on Wednesday 19 June and will last 6 hours;
the day after a second written test, concerning the disciplines characterizing the individual study paths;
then the interview, which generally begins a week after the writings, after the correction of the latter, in which the candidate will have to make connections between the various subjects, as the minister has clarified in recent days.
During the interview, the candidate explains the experiences carried out in the context of the Paths for Transversal Skills and Orientation (Pcto) and the skills acquired with Civic Education.
A third written test is foreseen in some study areas (EsaBac, EsaBac techno sections, sections with international option, schools of the autonomous region of Valle d'Aosta, of the autonomous province of Bolzano and schools with Slovenian teaching language and bilingual Slovenian/Italian of Friuli Venezia Giulia).

The examination commissions are made up of an external president, three external members and three internal members of the school.
The final evaluation is defined by the distribution of the 100 points available to the commission: maximum scholastic credit 40 points;
first written paper maximum 20 points;
second paper maximum 20 points;
interview maximum 20 points.
The minimum overall score to pass the state exam is sixty cents.

Undersecretary of Education Paola Frassinetti underlines how the choice of Greek over Classics "confirms the lasting importance of the study of ancient Greek, but also highlights its still very current relevance in the educational offer of our school".
