At the end of 2022, the net wealth of Italian families amounted to 10,421 billion euros.
Compared to 2021, it decreased by 1.7% in nominal terms, but due to inflation, the decline in real terms, using the consumer price index as a deflator, was much more marked and equal to -12, 5%.
This is stated in the Note from Istat and the Bank of Italy on the "wealth of the main institutional sectors 2005-2022", highlighting that net wealth also fell in relation to disposable income, from 8.7 to 8.1, "reaching the highest level low in the period of investigation of this publication" (2005-2022).
Net wealth is given by the difference between gross wealth (financial and non-financial assets) and financial liabilities.
