Japan has also decided to temporarily suspend funding to the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, following Israel's accusations of the participation of some staff members in the October 7 attacks.
Tokyo is the ninth country to suspend funds, as done - among others - also by Germany, the United States and Italy.
The Japanese government said it was "extremely concerned by the alleged involvement of UNRWA personnel in the terrorist attack against Israel on 7 October last year".
"For this reason - continues a note -, Japan has decided to temporarily suspend additional funding to UNRWA, while the agency conducts an investigation and evaluates the measures to be adopted".
Finally, Tokyo states that it will continue "at the same time to make diplomatic efforts to improve the situation in the Gaza Strip and to calm it as soon as possible by providing support to other international organizations".
