Original Belgian waffles are soft on the inside and coated with finely caramelized granulated sugar and baked beautifully crispy and golden brown on the outside.
In addition to the double-fried fries and fine chocolate, the Belgians are particularly known for their delicious waffles.
Waffles are also popular here in Germany.
Unlike in Belgium, however, German waffle irons are usually flower-shaped (with individually divided hearts) and not square.
In addition, the typical waffle batter in this country is quite thin, similar to a classic pancake batter.
In Belgium, on the other hand, small portion balls can be formed from the thick dough and then baked in a buttered iron to form golden brown waffles.
From the waffle iron: Belgian waffles, grandma's heart waffles and co.
Waffles are the almost perfect accompaniment to any spontaneously announced visit for afternoon coffee.
The dough is mixed in just a few minutes and can then rest, covered, in the refrigerator until the coffee is brewed.
Fresh, warm waffles can then be baked precisely and served dusted with a little powdered sugar.
You can never go wrong with grandma's traditional heart waffles.
The crispy Belgian waffles are wonderful to enjoy with a little fine powdered sugar and fresh blueberries.

However, the classic basic recipe can also be baked wonderfully without industrial sugar or flour and instead with banana and oat flakes.
If you're looking for a cool dessert on hot summer days, you can quickly create a wonderful ice cream sandwich with two freshly baked waffles and some ice cream.

It's that easy to bake original Belgian waffles in the iron
To make the waffle batter, first beat the soft butter with the sugar, vanilla sugar and a pinch of salt in a large mixing bowl with a hand mixer until creamy.
Gradually add the eggs to the dough.
Mix the flour and baking powder in a separate bowl and then sift it into the mixing bowl.
Mix together with the cream and, if necessary, a little milk to form a thick dough.
Now turn on your waffle iron.
Mix the granulated sugar into the dough.
Grease the waffle iron with a little butter and fry the dough in portions in the hot, buttered waffle iron into golden brown waffles.
Optionally garnish with a little powdered sugar.
Bon appetit!
The slightly caramelized Belgian waffles, which are soft on the inside and crispy on the outside, can be enjoyed wonderfully on their own.
And yet hot cherries from a glass combined with a scoop of creamy vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream make a delicious topping for fresh waffles.
