China has warned and called for an "end to the spiral of retaliation" in the Middle East after the drone attack on US troops in Jordan which killed three American soldiers and injured about thirty others.
"We hope that all relevant parties will maintain calm and restraint to avoid falling into a vicious cycle of retaliation and prevent further escalation of regional tension," Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said of the US promise to respond to the attack. drone attack blamed on Iranian-backed militants.

Iran has said it had nothing to do with the attack and has rejected Washington's accusations that it supported militant groups behind Sunday's attack at the remote border base in northeastern Jordan, near the borders with Iraq and Syria.
