There's a new superwoman on the block, and she knows a thing or two about dragons.

Rising Australian actress Millie Alcock, best known for her role as the young princess Rhaenyria Targaryen in "House of the Dragon", will play Supergirl in the new cinematic world of Warner Studios and DC Comics - the DC Universe - which is led by director James Gunn ("Guardians of the Galaxy ", "suicide squad").

Alcock (23) is expected to make her debut in Superman: Legacy next year and will star in her own solo film in the future.

In doing so, she joins a number of other actors who have recently been announced as having significant roles in the DC cinematic universe, including David Cornswater (Superman), Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), Nicholas Hoult (Lex Luthor), Nathan Fillion (Green Lantern) and more.

A little background: in the comics, although the character of Supergirl has gone through several incarnations and versions, the most familiar version of all is that of the daughter of the planet Krypton Kara Zor-El - Superman's young cousin - who also finds her way to Earth.

This is probably also the comic book version that will appear in the new movies.

Alcock actually replaces in the role the actress Sasha Kaya, who once played Supergirl in the movie "The Flash" from last year, but will not continue to the new universe like the vast majority of the actors from the previous universe (among them Gal Gadot, on whose face she hung the lasso of Wonder Woman for good, but An official announcement has not yet been received in her case).

Another version of the character starred for six seasons, between 2015 and 2021, in the series "Supergirl" which is now available on Netflix and takes place in the "Arrowverse" - which also includes the series "The Arrow", "The Flash", "Legends of Tomorrow" , "Batwoman" and "Black Lightning".

All of these series have come to an end in recent years

and have nothing to do with Gunn's new universe,

which aims to start everything from scratch.

In other words: forget all the previous variations, because as of today there is only one Supergirl.
