100 euros for your birthday?

Many people in Germany can look forward to this in 2024.

The government is pursuing a clear goal.

Kassel – In times of increased prices, such as in the supermarket or at the gas station, a gift of money is always a pleasure.

In 2024, hundreds of thousands of people in Germany can look forward to receiving a sum from the state - and not for the first time.

Some people already benefited from the extra money last year.

For the culture pass: The state is again giving young people money for their birthdays

We're talking about the culture pass.

Due to the current budget crisis, this is now supported with a budget of 100 euros, instead of the 200 euros in 2023. Everyone who turns 18 this year will benefit from the payment, as the federal government announced in a press release.

That corresponds to around 750,000 Germans.

With the culture pass, the federal government wants to support young people and cultural institutions and organizers.

Ultimately, the culture pass is intended to make cultural offerings more attractive for young people.

The culture pass money can be redeemed at the following locations:

  • Cinemas

  • Theater and operas

  • Museums and exhibitions

  • Bookstores

  • Concerts and festivals

  • Record stores

Activate a culture pass and 100 euros – that’s how it works

The culture pass is officially valid from March 1, 2024. However, an app is required to access the money.

This is where young people can identify themselves, as stated on the official website of the culture pass.

This requires the so-called “eID”, the online identification function.

If the registration has worked, the 100 euro budget is activated and can be redeemed until December 31, 2024.

This is also possible retroactively, for example the 18th birthday was already in January.

Last year, young people had the opportunity to redeem a 200 euro credit.

But we now want to accommodate them too.

It was agreed with Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP) that “those born in 2005 can still use their culture pass this year.” State Minister for Culture and Media Claudia Roth (The Greens) told the

.

What this means is an open budget that has not yet been used - provided that it has been activated by December 31, 2023.

In addition to young people, organizers and cultural workers are also supported with the money.

The last ones in particular had to accept severe economic losses due to the corona pandemic, among other things.
