Waited for a donor for 4 years.
Moshe/Ichilov Hospital
Last Thursday, 2 kidneys were transplanted into the body of Moshe Kovacs, 82 years old, from Oranit.
This is an uncommon operation, and in this case it was performed due to the advanced age of the donor who died at the age of 84.
Kidneys from an elderly donor are generally considered to have poor function compared to a young donor, but together they provide sufficient activity to allow the patient a new life free from dialysis dependency.
In Ichilov, experience has been gained in a rare type of such transplants with very good results.
Moshe was treated with dialysis for four years and waited for a suitable donor.
During the entire waiting period, as throughout his life, he did not give up anything: he traveled, engaged in fishing, creative photography and sang in a band.
He also continued his work as an industrial engineer.

Last week while driving to work, he received the happy news.
"Paulina Katz, the transplant coordinator, informed me: We found a kidney for you. Arrive at the hospital within an hour! I collected a small bag from home and went to Ichilov," he says.
"It was explained to me that there is a higher chance of gaining optimal functioning, if I receive two kidneys instead of just one.
So far I know nothing about the donor, but the act in itself testifies to the greatness of his soul and his family members."
All members of his supporting family hold Eddie cards.
"I brought a gift for my wife and me for our wedding anniversary, which was celebrated in the week of the transplant," says Moshe.
Hadva, his wife of 43 years, says: "The transplant fell not only on our wedding anniversary, but on the occasion of a celebration of nature. On the 2nd of Shvet, two kidneys were transplanted into my husband's body - for the future and good hope."
"I want to thank Dr. Roni Baruch, director The service for the treatment of kidney transplant recipients, which accompanies dialysis patients until extubation, for the great encouragement it gave me," says Moshe.
"Thanks also to Dr. Yaakov Goichman, director of the transplant unit, and Dr. Muhammad Younes, a senior physician in the department, who operated on me."
