Despite having collected 18 nominations and won nine awards, Joni Mitchell had never sung during Grammy night: things will change with Sunday evening's ceremony in Los Angeles, when the Yellow Taxi singer will join other famous names in the lineup already announced, including Billy Joel, Olivia Rodrigo and Billie Eilish.

This was announced by the Recording Academy, which awards the most prestigious music awards, together with CBS, the network where the live broadcast of the ceremony conducted for the fourth consecutive year by Trevor Noah will be broadcast.

Joni, who received a Grammy for lifetime achievement in 2002, could collect her tenth award on Sunday, having been nominated for best folk album: Joni Mitchell at Newport was produced by the faithful Brandi Carlile who has accompanied her in the last two years in rare performances by the elderly artist on stage.

Mitchell turned 80 in November and nine years ago she was knocked out by a brain aneurysm that nearly killed her.

Since then, the singer-songwriter of folk/rock triumphs such as Both Sides Now and Circle Game had retired from the scene and only a couple of years ago she returned to singing in public, albeit now in a wheelchair: the first time was in 2022 , right at the Newport Folk Festival.

The Grammy stage at the Crypto.com Arena on Sunday will be packed.

Sza, in the lead with nine nominations including best album (Sos, running against Taylor Swift's Midnights), joined yesterday a lineup of performers that also include Billy Joel, Burna Boy, Dua Lipa, Luke Combs, Travis Scott and U2.

Women artists dominate the nominations and the predictions on the eve: followed with seven nominations are Phoebe Bridgers, Victoria Monét and the technician/mixer Serban Ghenea.

Another six nominations went to Taylor Swift, with Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish, Miley Cyrus (in pole position for record of the year with Flowers), Jon Batiste and Brandy Clark.

Swift, who has done nothing but collect records in recent months, could add another on Sunday: if she beats Sza (but also Jon Batiste with World Music Radio, Miley Cyrus with Endless Summer Vacation, Lana Del Rey with Did You Know That There's a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd, Janelle Monáe with The Age of Pleasure and Olivia Rodrigo with Guts) will be the first artist to have won four times in one of the most prestigious categories, album of the year.

For Taylor, who must be in Tokyo on February 7th for the resumption of The Eras tour, it would be the 13th Grammy, a lucky number for the singer born on December 13th.

After the exclusion from the Oscars of director Greta Gerwig and protagonist Margot Robbie, the Grammys could give Barbie a revenge.

In fact, there are twelve nominations in seven categories linked to the film phenomenon of the summer with global grosses of 1.4 billion dollars: among these best song of the year and record of the year, with What Was I Made For?

performed by Billie Eilish.
