Whether as a nutrient-rich salad topping or in crunchy breakfast muesli, nuts can be used in a variety of culinary ways.

In general, the nut in all shapes and colors seems to have experienced a new hype as a so-called superfood.

That shouldn't surprise anyone, because in times of healthy and balanced nutrition, the small snack can impress with its high fiber content, unsaturated fatty acids and vitamin E, among other things.

Whether with a thin layer of powdered sugar or with a crunchy chocolate icing - Grandma's moist nut cake always tastes good.

It's so easy to bake grandma's nut cake

  • While the oven is preheating to 180 degrees top and bottom heat, first cream the butter with the sugar and vanilla sugar in a large mixing bowl.

Gradually add the eggs, stirring constantly.

In a separate bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, salt and hazelnuts together.

  • In the next step, the dry ingredients are added to the large bowl along with the milk and chocolate shavings and stirred until smooth to form a thick cake batter.

  • Pour the dough into a baking pan greased with a little butter or oil, smooth it out and bake in the preheated oven for about an hour.

Then remove it and carry out the swab test.

Allow the nut cake to cool completely and carefully remove it from the mold.

  • For the optional glaze, melt the chocolate with the butter over a water bath.

Cover the cooled cake evenly with the chocolate and garnish with the chopped hazelnuts.

Alternatively, dust with a little powdered sugar.

    Bon appetit!
