Consumers have voted for the best supermarkets: While Edeka and Rewe score points, Kaufland lags behind.

Munich – Many consumers are convinced that products in discounters are cheaper than in supermarkets.

But when it comes to food quality, supermarkets often win the race.

However, customer satisfaction varies significantly between supermarkets.

This is shown by a survey by the German Institute for Service Quality.

A corresponding ranking list was created based on reviews from over 1,159 customers.

Rewe is particularly popular among supermarkets because of the high quality of food

The high quality of the food on offer and the attractive store design have brought Rewe to the top of the list.

With a total of 77.8 points, Rewe received a quality rating of “good,” according to the German Institute for Service Quality on its website.

Despite occasional problems with food quality, such as a recent nationwide recall of sausage products, Rewe was able to take first place.

With 74.3 points, Edeka secured second place in the survey.

The quality rating is “good”, a rating also received by six other supermarket chains, including Tegut and Kaufland.

However, with a score of 71.4, Kaufland only ends up in seventh place.

Customer satisfaction appears to be even lower at the companies Famila and K+K Klaas & Kock.

In the survey they only achieved a quality rating of “satisfactory”, with Famila receiving 69.8 points and K+K 68.8 points.

The result differs greatly from the assessment of the German Society for Consumer Studies (DtGV) from 2022.

In this ranking, Kaufland took first place, while Famila took third place.

Rewe, on the other hand, only ranked eleventh and Edeka reached eighth place.

Our editorial team also carried out a vote, which in turn produced a different result.

Many consumers prefer supermarkets because of their quality and regionality

But in the survey evaluation by the German Institute for Service Quality, the supermarkets Rewe and Edeka only achieved a “satisfactory” rating in the prices subcategory.

Although consumers are quite satisfied with the quality of the food, especially its freshness and taste, there is still room for improvement in prices.

Given that food prices have continued to rise recently, this is not surprising.

In this rating, Edeka even slips to fifth place, while Kaufland climbs to the top.

Rewe at least made it to second place.

Although prices are higher, many consumers prefer to do their shopping in supermarkets rather than discounters.

According to the survey, almost 58 percent are willing to spend more money on high-quality food.

In addition, they see the extensive range of regional products as a clear advantage.

However, the German Institute for Service Quality also points out that easy accessibility plays an important role when choosing a supermarket or discounter.
