Due to inflation and increases in VAT, some restaurateurs are forced to pass on the costs to their customers.

A Reddit post now reveals consumer frustration.

Munich – Ten years ago, the kebab only cost a fraction of the price today.

Consumers can now prepare to pay a higher single-digit amount for the popular dish.

The reason for this is, on the one hand, inflation, which means that the individual ingredients – vegetables, falafel or meat and bread – have become more expensive.

Restaurateurs therefore often have little choice but to pass on the increased costs to their customers.

A curious piece of paper in a kebab shop shows how frustrated individual consumers are.

This sparked a lively discussion on the Reddit platform.

Curious note text is intended to justify price increases in kebab shops

A user published the note text under the subreddit “aberBitteLaminiert”.

It says: “Due to property tax high (19 percent).” Although there is a lot wrong here both in terms of content and grammar, it is possible to decipher what the author actually means.

Basically he charges a surcharge of 50 cents.

The price increase is not due to the property tax, but rather the increase in VAT from seven to 19 percent.

The tax rate for restaurateurs was increased again at the beginning of the year.

The author of the Reddit post takes it with humor and writes: “Who doesn’t know it: the property tax …” Other users, however, make fun of the bill: “19 percent = 50 cents,” writes one.

The author answers: "What's particularly exciting is that the surcharge is the same for all dishes." Another user corrects that the text on the note in the kebab shop does not say 50 cents, but 0.5 cents.

“It’s too much to bear.

However, the rest can't be very expensive if this is - roughly speaking - 19 percent of the total price,” comments a user, visibly amused.

However, a majority of Reddit users in the comments column are frustrated about the price increase.

“I know people who spend twelve hours a day being stupid and stupid and then have to deal with rude guests,” said one user.

But when he observes that the kebab price is gradually increasing in the stall next door, he “loses all understanding”.

One user points out that the increased tax rate is just “back to normal,” while another says that the twelve percent will be passed on to customers one way or another.

One user goes even further and writes on the note: “Overall, I have so little pity for farmers and restaurateurs.” Some then defend the kebab shop owner’s decision.

“It’s not like everything stayed stable,” said one user.

Accordingly, restaurateurs could not have simply pocketed the VAT reduction during the Corona crisis.

How much the author of the Reddit post ended up paying is unknown.

When asked if he received a receipt, he replied: “In a kebab shop?

Where are you thinking of going?”
