Highlights: Since 7 October, 200 discriminatory acts have been reported in Italy. From 7 October to 31 December, 200 reports of discriminatory acts were received by the Oscad observatory, compared to 17 in the same period in 2022. There is widespread heterogeneity in behavior and there have only been 9 reports reported, because many of the events are at the limit of the threshold of criminal relevance. From 7 October to 31 December, 200 reports of discriminatory acts were received by the Oscad observatory, compared to 17 in the same period in 2022.

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has certainly led to events of anti-Semitism and discrimination.

There is widespread heterogeneity in behavior and there have only been 9 reports reported, because many of the events are at the limit of the threshold of criminal relevance: perhaps a widespread cultural intervention is necessary to raise awareness of anti-Semitism". The Chief of Police, Vittorio Pisani, said this at the Parliamentary Commission for the fight against intolerance, racism and anti-Semitism.

The prefect also reported that, again since 7 October, "there have been 20 reports from Israeli university students in Italy who have suffered discriminatory acts.

While respecting the autonomy of the rectors, it is necessary to understand together with them the extent of the episodes and what a training intervention with the Oscad observatory could be in the university environment".

At the end of the hearing there was a comment from the president of the Commission, Liliana Segre: " I want to reiterate - he said - the terrible sadness of the time we are living in.

For a Commission that is against hatred, everything that was talked about gives the impression of a chilling atmosphere."
