The US has announced that it will reimpose sanctions on Venezuela's oil and gas sector, after the Supreme Court of the South American country - loyal to President Nicolas Maduro - banned opposition candidates from running in the presidential elections.

“In the absence of progress between Maduro and his representatives and the opposition's united platform, particularly in allowing all presidential candidates to compete in this year's elections, the United States will not renew General License 44 when it expires on April 18, 2024,” he said State Department spokesman Matthew.
