Angry farmers: update on road blockages near Paris and throughout France

Highlights: More than 150 gatherings were recorded, with 8,500 demonstrators for around 5,500 vehicles. In Île-de-France, seven motorway blockages were counted and two processions for fewer than 1,000 participants and as many vehicles. Access to Paris is not impossible, but requires significant detours. Since Tuesday, the Buchelay toll, on the A13 motorway, has been completely unblocked. In Argenteuil, the blockade of the A15 has persisted since Monday.

The mobilization continues, and with it its share of blockages.

Despite concessions from Paris and Brussels, anger did not subside on Wednesday evening among the farmers who maintained the pressure on the highways and around Rungis, where dozens of them were arrested after a brief coup.

In France, this Wednesday evening, more than 150 gatherings were recorded, with 8,500 demonstrators for around 5,500 vehicles, according to a police source.

In Île-de-France, seven motorway blockages were counted and two processions for fewer than 1,000 participants and as many vehicles, according to a police source.

Access to Paris is not impossible, but requires significant detours.

“Convoys of tractors have been reported to reinforce the existing blockages in the four Ile-de-France departments,” indicates the DNRT (National Directorate of Territorial Intelligence) which, in a note that we were able to consult, takes stock of the situation.

  • Yvelines

Since Tuesday, the Buchelay toll, on the A13 motorway, has been completely unblocked.

The convoy, made up of 80 tractors, tried to get closer to Paris before being blocked by the police at the Mureaux exit where they blocked traffic on the A13 in the Province-Paris direction.

Since Wednesday morning, 37 tractors from Eure and Seine-Maritime have reinforced the blockage.

At midday, the blockage brought together 100 people, 90 tractors, 8 trailers and a lifting machine.

  • Essonne

Two blockages, bringing together 320 tractors, were still in progress on Wednesday.

In Janvry, the A10 motorway was blocked near the Limours-Janvry rest area.

Around 11 a.m., the blockage concentrated 100 farmers, 120 tractors and 30 light vehicles.

On the A6 motorway, the base camp of around a hundred tractors, initially installed in Villabé, moved to exit 5 in Chilly-Mazarin.

Around thirty farmers affiliated with the Organic Farmers Group (GAB) also planned to hold a filter dam with their tractor in Brétigny-sur-Orge.

  • Seine et Marne

Three blocking operations were still in progress Wednesday evening.

In Réau, on the A5 motorway, traffic was blocked by a blockade of 160 tractors.

Ditto in Jossigny, on the A4 motorway, where 173 tractors, 120 cars, 4 heavy goods vehicles and nearly 300 people at the peak took part in the blockade.

In Guignes, a blockade launched by around fifteen farmers from the Rural Coordination (CR) of Haute-Saône and Aube, brought together a handful of vehicles on Wednesday.

  • Val d'Oise

Two blocking operations continued in the Ile-de-France department on Wednesday.

In Argenteuil, the blockade of the A15 has persisted since Monday with several dozen tractors.

Traffic is only blocked in the province-Paris direction.

In Chennevières-lès-Louvres, the blockade of the A1 led by 100 farmers with 137 tractors, installed on the traffic lanes in both directions, was still holding on Wednesday.

  • Farmer travel to Île-de-France

The convoy of farmers from the Lot-et-Garonne Rural Coordination, which left Agen towards Rungis, continued its journey on Wednesday evening despite attempts by the police to block it.

A large part of the convoy split into three convoys heading towards Gien, Sully-sur-Loire and Châteauneuf-sur-Loire.

In France, several major regional traffic routes are also affected by filter dams, blockages or demonstrations.

  • Pas-de-Calais

Local farmers' unions were to organize trips to Paris from this Wednesday evening.

A convoy of around fifty tractors was to join the A16, while two others were targeting the A1 motorway.

The arrival at the blocking point was planned at the Chennevières-lès-Louvres rest area.

  • Haute-Garonne

In Garidech, 10 farmers from the Young Farmers with 7 tractors blocked the A68 in the Albi-Toulouse direction on Wednesday.

A straw wall was erected on the site.

The demonstrators planned to spend at least the night at the site.

  • Maine-et-Loire

The blockade on the A11 motorway still holds, traffic was blocked in the Paris-Angers direction by 5 tractors.

Another blocking point was still in place in Seiches-sur-le-Loir.

  • Puy de Dome

In Clermont-Ferrand, 50 farmers accompanied by 50 tractors were still blocking the interchange on the A71 and A75 on Wednesday.

  • Isère

Farmers have been blocking the A48 in Grenoble for several days with 15 tractors and 25 people.

Same situation in Ruy-Montceau at the A48/A43 interchange.

In Seyssuel, since this Wednesday morning, 31 tractors with skips and fodder have been blocking the A7 in the South-North direction.

  • Rhone

Around Lyon, the farmers' goal is to surround France's third city by cutting off all the highways leading to it.

Three blockages were in progress on Wednesday evening: at Pierre-Bénite on the M7/A450, at La Tour de Salvagny on the A89 and at Villefranche-sur-Saône on the A6.

Concerning the latter, 300 farmers were on site, as well as around twenty light vehicles to provide relief.

The toll platform was completely blocked on Wednesday.

  • Gironde

In Langon, 500 demonstrators and 190 tractors blocked the A62 motorway in both directions on Wednesday.

A filter dam is also organized in Verteuil.

  • Corrèze

In Ussel, around thirty farmers continued to block the A89 motorway, exit 23, in both directions on Wednesday.

The blocking of the A11 motorway has also resumed at the Seiches-sur-le-Loir toll.

  • Haute-Vienne

In Boiseuil, 150 people with 70 tractors blocked the A20

  • Saône-et-Loire

The A6 motorway was blocked on Wednesday near Tournus in both directions by 80 tractors and 150 people.

  • Vaucluse

A procession of farmers, made up of around twenty tractors, carried out operations to block the A7 motorway this Wednesday.

  • Great East

The FDSEA and local Young Farmers organized 3 road blockages, for a period of 48 hours, renewable for 24 hours on Wednesday.

Blockages took place in Atton on the A31, in Ville-en-Vermois on the A33 and in Bréhain-La-Ville on national road 52.

The movement in the agricultural world has serious consequences for road hauliers.

The latter, through the Union of Transport and Logistics Companies of France (Union TLF), requested on Wednesday “very short-term support measures” for companies which “are experiencing unacceptable blockages to their activity” .
