There are five Apulian agricultural companies, all in the Piana degli ulivimonumentali area (between Monopoli and Carovigno), which took part in the testing of the App Ulìa smartphone application for the traceability of Apulian extra virgin olive oil.
Each of the five companies identified three regularly surveyed trees, managing to harvest a total of 1,298 kilos of olives in 2023, equal to 150.4 liters of extra virgin olive oil and 469 bottles of various sizes.
A traceable product thanks to the app and the QR code on the package collar.
The results of the project were presented this morning in Bari. Present, among others, were the regional councilor for Agriculture, Donato Pentassuglia, and the person responsible for the procedure for the App Ulìa project, Francesco Matarrese.
The experiment was conducted by the Region's Agriculture department, by Mermec Engineering and by the companies involved.
Thanks to the app, consumers will simply need to scan the QR code to view, through the Ulìa App, the monumental olive trees from which the olives were harvested, the different stages of production, the accompanying photos and the profile of each of the five agricultural companies that participated in the experimentation.
"The experimentation - said Matarrese - served to populate the telematic database on which a QR code is based.
The oil thus obtained will be marketed, while each company will use the QR code as a telematic showcase".
