China overtakes Japan and takes the title of largest vehicle exporting country in the world for the first time in 2023.
According to data released today by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (Jama), the Japanese association of manufacturers, the Land of the Rising Sun exported a total of 4.42 million vehicles last year, less than the 4.91 million claimed just a few days ago by its counterpart in Mandarin, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (Caam).
The overtaking occurred in the wake of the decisive push in China for the rapidly expanding electric car sector.
