About 15% of Italian couples suffer from infertility problems.

In women, fertility is linked to age: as the years pass, the ovarian reserve decreases, until it reaches complete exhaustion with menopause.

In the case of men, however, reproductive capabilities are more influenced by external factors, such as bad habits, toxic substances, tobacco, alcohol, etc.

In our country, access to assisted fertilization is regulated by law 40 of 2004 and allows the use of Pma only "if there are no other effective therapeutic methods to remove the causes of sterility or infertility".

But although the requests for MAP are increasing, it is still difficult to talk about infertility, "sometimes forgetting that today medicine and science have made incredible progress".

For this Saturday 10 February 2024, on the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of law40, it will be possible to carry out a first free online visit with the fertility specialists of the Ivi clinics in Italy.

With 74 clinics distributed across 9 countries, Ivi represents the largest assisted reproduction group in the world.

The visits will be from 9am to 1pm by booking the toll-free number 800 088247.

""The overcoming of some of the limits of Law 40 over the years has led to a real boom in PMA in our country, even if there is still a lot of work to be done.

We decided to organize this initiative close to the twentieth anniversary of this law, precisely to underline the importance and uniqueness it represented for couples of future parents.

In IVI clinics the priority is attention to people - says Dr. Daniela Galliano, specialist in Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Medicine, head of the Ivi PMA center in Rome.

We hope that thanks to this moment of discussion between doctor and patient, the participants will be able to resolve as many doubts on the topic of fertility which - unfortunately - very often remain as open questions.

In fact, we notice more and more often that women, for example, tend to underestimate signs such as irregular cycles, which become less frequent over time.

In these cases, it is important to immediately go to a specialist, get informed and make informed decisions.

"Often - continues Galliano - the couples who come to us have limited knowledge of the infertility problem and the possible solutions. Knowing the state of one's fertility and the strategies to protect it is a gift one gives to oneself and with this initiative we want to be alongside our patients who have a wonderful dream like bringing a child into the world, but need a guide at their side who explains all the possible solutions."
