Not in all cases of pediatric gender dysphoria treated at the Careggi hospital in Florence, the indicated preliminary course of psychotherapy was carried out before the administration of the drug triptorelin.
This is what emerges, according to what ANSA has learned, from the first data relating to the audit carried out by the team of experts from the Ministry of Health in the Florentine hospital on 24 and 25 January.
The note from 12 scientific societies: "Triptorelin saves life in very young transgender people"
"Triptorelin, a transient and reversible puberty blocker, is a life-saving drug in very young transgender and gender diverse people, prescribed only after careful multi-professional evaluation, the purpose of which is neither to chemically and definitively castrate, nor to modify sexual orientation and identity, but to give time for suffering young people and families to make thoughtful and mature choices, preventing social stigma, self-harm and suicide".
This was stated in a joint note by 12 scientific societies.
"Transgender and gender diverse (TGD) adolescents have a gender identity that does not conform to the sex assigned at birth. TGS adolescents can experience intense suffering due to their gender incongruence, both psychological and physical - explain the experts - To reduce psychological and physical discomfort, in addition to gaining time and giving the adolescent himself the opportunity to further explore his own path to gender affirmation, the use of drugs such as GnRH analogues (GnRHa) which have with the aim of temporarily suspending the progression of pubertal changes and have been used for a long time in the therapy of precocious puberty. The prescription of GnRHa, triptorelin, takes place in accordance with what is already provided for by AIFA Determination no. 21756/2019 of 25 February 2019 which provides that the prescription occurs only after careful multi-professional evaluation, with the contribution of a multidisciplinary and specialist team, made up of child and adolescent neuropsychiatrists, developmental psychologists, bioethicists and endocrinologists", we read in the note.
