New record of employed people in December 2023: the number is equal to 23 million 754 thousand and is overall higher than that of December 2022 by 456 thousand units, as a synthesis of the increase of 418 thousand permanent employees and 42 thousand self-employed workers compared to the decrease of 5 thousand employees term.
Istat communicates this by releasing the provisional data.
The employment rate rises to 61.9%, while the total unemployment rate drops to 7.2% (-0.2 points compared to November) and the youth rate to 20.1% (-0.4 points).
The total rate is at the lowest level since December 2008 (when it was 6.9%), for young people since July 2007 (19.4%).
