An umbilical hernia may initially be medically harmless.
However, if there are any complications, it can become life-threatening.
Heinz Hoenig (72) is a German actor who became known worldwide for his role in the Oscar-nominated film “Das Boot” from 1981.
The 72-year-old can currently be seen as one of the twelve candidates in the new season of the RTL TV show “Jungle Camp”.

As the daily newspaper
Bild
found out according to research, Hoenig is said to have had the umbilical hernia for many years.
According to
Pharmacies Umschau,
this is a small hernia in the navel area.
This means that underlying structures can push outwards through the weak point.
This disease is usually not accompanied by pain.
However, there is a visible bulging of the navel.
This is considered the main symptom of an umbilical hernia.
According to information from
Bayerischer Rundfunk,
an umbilical hernia can occur at any age, although women are affected more often than men.
There are various risk factors that cause the pressure on the connective tissue behind the navel to become too great and a gap to form.
The following factors can play an important role here:
pregnancy
genetically caused connective tissue weakness
Overweight
heavy lifting
Chronic constipation (causing heavy straining during bowel movements)
Cirrhosis of the liver
Accumulation of fluid in the abdominal cavity

Umbilical hernia: How can suffering be treated?
Typically, an umbilical hernia only requires surgery if it causes pain or becomes larger.
An umbilical hernia initially appears as a bulge or bump (hernial sac), but does not cause any symptoms.
However, if parts of the intestine slip into the so-called hernial sac and become trapped, it is a medical emergency.
This can be life-threatening and must therefore be operated on immediately.
A trapped intestine is noticeable through various symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, sudden, severe abdominal pain, constipation, fever or a bluish discoloration of the skin in the area of the hernia.
