The US State Department is examining options for possible recognition of Palestinian statehood.
Axios reports this, citing informed sources according to which Secretary of State
Antony Blinken has asked his team to analyze all the possibilities available to the United States, including: recognizing the State of Palestine;
do not use your veto to prevent the Security Council from admitting Palestine as a member state of the UN;
to encourage other countries to recognize Palestine.
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu claims that UNRWA, the UN agency for Palestinian refugees rocked by 12 cases of Hamas-affiliated employees, is "totally infiltrated" by the terrorist organization.
Cutting funding to the United Nations agency for
Palestinian refugees
(UNRWA) will have "
catastrophic consequences" for Gaza
, the heads of several United Nations bodies said in a joint statement today.
“The withdrawal of funds from UNRWA is dangerous and would lead to the collapse of the humanitarian system in Gaza, with far-reaching humanitarian and human rights consequences in the occupied Palestinian territories and across the region,” reads the statement from the heads of the organizations form the United Nations Inter-Agency Permanent Commission (IASC).
The United Nations children's agency
says its biggest concern about Gaza is about
19,000 children left orphaned or alone without any adult to care for them,
writes the BBC, which interviewed
Jonathan Crick
, head of communications for Unicef Palestine.
“Many of these children were found under the rubble or lost their parents in the bombing of their home,” says Crick from Rafah.
Others were found at Israeli checkpoints, in hospitals and on the streets.
"The little ones very often cannot say their name and even the older ones are usually in shock."

Half of the buildings in the Gaza Strip are damaged and the Palestinian territory is "uninhabitable", after four months of war waged by Israel against the Islamic movement Hamas.
The UN estimated this today.
It will take tens of billions of dollars to make the narrow strip of land livable again, underlines a report by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
The population of Gaza "is dying of hunger".
This was reported by the director of the World Health Organization's health emergencies programme, Michael Ryan, after the main donor countries announced the suspension of their aid to the United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA).
"This is a population that is starving. This is a population that is pushed to the brink," Ryan said at a news conference in Geneva.
