The LR president of the Ile-de-France region, Valérie Pécresse affirmed “applying the law” during the vote on an obligato public subsidy

Meeting as a permanent committee, the regional council voted for an initial envelope of 917,000 euros in favor of the Stanislas high school in the 6th arrondissement of Paris.

This amount corresponds to 70% of the annual day school package, a compulsory subsidy, calculated according to the number of students and paid by the region which controls secondary education.

The remaining 30% will be paid in July.

The publication by Mediapart of a National Education report had revealed “abuses of this establishment in the application of the association contract” with the State, such as for example the obligation to follow catechism classes;

Immediately, the City of Paris announced that it was temporarily suspending its funding.

But for the President of the Ile-de-France region, this subsidy which has just been voted on only “applies the law”, she declared while being questioned by the left-wing opposition.

“Failure”, according to Valérie Pécresse

“All those who take different decisions, that is to say who suspend the establishment packages even as a precautionary measure, would find themselves obliged to reinstate them in their budget by force by the regional prefect,” said she defended it while recognizing “that there were clearly failings at Stanislas high school”.

Valérie Pécresse recalled having “seized in 2022 and 2023 the Paris rectorate and the Ministry of National Education” about these “failures” even if the region voted in July 2023 for non-obligatory aid of 487,000 euros to Stanislas, for “standards and accessibility work”.

Christophe Prudhomme, opponent of the LFI and related group, criticized the president of the region for her “unconditional support” for Catholic education and for having financed an “extremely wealthy” high school beyond legal obligations.

Valérie Pécresse also underlined that the region plans "one billion euros in investments this year in public high schools" and only "eleven million for riveted high schools, that is to say 1.1% (of the budget) for 20% of students.
