Another week is coming to an end, and so that you can start planning your plans for the rest of the week right now - we have prepared for you some recommendations for everything that is interesting in the world of culture in the first week of February.

Movies

"Mean Girls"

The iconic high school comedy from 2004 returns in a refreshing new version based on the hit musical based on the original film which itself was based on a book (yes, we could breathe while writing that).

Once again, the character of the innocent Cady arrives at her new home in the suburbs, where she connects with a pair of outsiders, who introduce her to the complex social life of American youth.

When she joins the "Plastics", the most exclusive group of girls in high school, she finds herself falling in love with the ex of the leader - and then the nails are pulled out.

The amazing Tina Fey also wrote the updated screenplay, which brings the original film into Generation Z and the age of social media, with the message, surprisingly, remaining pretty much the same even after 20 years.

in the cinemas

"The Boy and the Heron"

Oscar-winning Japanese animation master Hayao Miyazaki ("The Incredible Journey", "Princess Mononoke") returned from a 10-year retirement for this wonderful film, which won the Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Film - a category in which he will also try to win at the upcoming Oscar ceremony.

This story follows 11-year-old Mahito, who is forced to leave Tokyo with his father and move to live in a small village, next to his father's new and pregnant partner.

He meets an unusual gray heron in a large estate nearby, who will guide him and help him in the unique and exciting coming of age journey on which he embarks, in a world full of magic, colors and, as befits Miyazaki - particularly strange creatures.

in the cinemas

"The House on Finn Street"

Director Amir Manor's new film ("Hayota Vebarel") investigates the country's "backyard" with an uncompromising look through an office complex in south Tel Aviv that served as a hotbed for prostitution and drug trafficking.

When Dina leaves her mother's house to move in with Avinaam, she does not expect that her dream will turn into a nightmare where she will become a prostitute.

A few years later, Avinaam re-examines his decisions and actions, and realizes that he must choose between his feelings emanating from him and between a violent and dangerous system that demands its victims.

With the participation of Raymond Amsalem (who won a role in the Ophir Award and the Outstanding Actress Award at the 2021 Haifa Festival), Imrie Beaton, Nika Beck, Maurice Cohen and Rami Hoiberger.

in the cinemas

"Argyle"

Matthew Vaughn's new film ("Kingsman: The Secret Service", "Kick-Ass", "X-Men: Origins") follows another spy who goes on an adventure around the world in search of a mysterious treasure, whose past may endanger him - or at least Written by bestselling author Ellie Conway.

As reality begins to mix with her book at a dangerous rate, assassins make her a wanted target due to events described in her book.

A host of stars participate in this film, including Henry Cavill, Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell, Samuel L.

Jackson, Bryan Cranston, John Cena, Catherine O'Hara and more.

in the cinemas

"Orion and the Darkness"

An intriguing animated film written by none other than Oscar winner Charlie Kaufman ("Eternal Sunshine with a Clear Head"), which follows a shy and anxious boy who is afraid of almost everything - but especially the dark.

When the tangible form of his greatest fear comes to visit, they embark on a journey where Orion will discover that there is nothing to be afraid of the dark, and that he may finally stop letting his fear paralyze him.

series

"cool it"

24 years after it debuted, the hit comedy starring the genius Larry David (which he also created) returns for its 12th and final season (contrary to his previous statements, this time he really means it).

This time, too, Larry will have to navigate between his professional and personal life and his "problematic" and blunt nature, which, as always - also in the new season, continues to get him into countless funny troubles.

Devoted viewers find it hard not to wonder: Will the stars of "Seinfeld" (which David created with Jerry Seinfeld) reunite during the farewell season?

We will have to wait and see for ourselves.

If he fails the task, he will not be accepted into the reserve and Daria will not receive a certificate.

The meeting between the two opposites creates conflicts that undermine both of them and establishes a change in them through which they will learn to accept themselves - and each other.

Exhibitions

"Equality voucher"

More than 120 contemporary projects from Israel and the world, from well-known off-the-shelf products and medical technological developments to critical and political design works alongside interactive installations will be presented in an exhibition that examines the role of design in creating gender consciousness, while seeking to raise awareness of the elusive ways in which design changes our consciousness as consumers.

In light of the events of October 7 and the war, the exhibition was accompanied by design and art works that relate to gender issues in the context of this period, which touches all of us with great pain.

"Dust and Tears"

Daniel Chechik's exhibition was born out of a long dialogue between him and the curator Sophie Barzon Mackay (from Barry Gallery) and a joint study of his more than 10-year-old archive, which took shape over more than a year.

Chechik interprets in his works a deep and primordial space of crisis situations in chaos, and illuminates the inherent potential in them for inner growth and change.

Now, after the events of October 7, she puts a physical place that feels cut off from time or place, for a process known to humanity since time immemorial.

"furrow-shack-point"

Using images of works and original works by artists from the area surrounding Gaza, who painted their surroundings and responded to landscapes, symbols and events in the distant, recent and present past, the exhibition will present forms, symbols and images that shaped Israeliness and that became iconic images even before the outbreak of the war.

The exhibition will also feature a diary of paintings under the influence of October 7 by Yochanan Drucker from Kibbutz Bari, as well as a ceramic work that the artist Michal Marom rescued from a house in Kibbutz Ra'im.
