Where are salaries in Germany?

A new analysis provides insight.

Managers often earn significantly better.

Inflation is causing problems for many consumers.

How have salaries developed in parallel?

The employer rating platform

Kununu

explains in its recently published “Paycheck 2024” how much people in this country recently earned.

According to the information, more than 835,000 salary data were evaluated for the salary study, of which more than 625,000 came from the year 2023, which just ended.

Paycheck: What is the average salary?

The trend: Germans have a little more money in their paychecks than last year, as

Kununu

's statement on the study states.

“On average, 49,214 euros are on German payslips every year,” it says specifically on the occasion of the evaluation.

Overall, the increase in the year-on-year comparison from 2022 to 2023 was 1.8 percent.

The result: Earnings are currently not keeping up with the rate of inflation in the country.

The nationwide average salary increased slightly, but could not compensate for the inflation rate, according to one of the sober results of the analysis.

How much do employees earn on average?

According to the evaluation, the best pay nationwide is in Hesse (53,952 euros), Hamburg (51,746 euros), Bavaria (51,519 euros) and Baden-Württemberg (51,448 euros).

As a result, employees in Saxony-Anhalt (41,020 euros) and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (39,630 euros) earn the least, although there is an above-average increase in wage development with salary jumps of a good four percent each, as the statement says.

Among the cities, Munich, Frankfurt am Main and Stuttgart are also at the top of the German salary rankings.

Jobs with personnel responsibility often mean significantly more salary

The biggest gap in salary comparison is between employees with and without personnel responsibility, as

Kununu

also reported during the evaluation.

People in management positions would earn an average of 59,448 euros - 29 percent more than their colleagues without authority, who would bring home an average of 46,260 euros.

Highest earners by professional field according to the study

Last but not least, the professional field can influence the salary: according to the paycheck, chief physicians are among the highest earners in Germany.

“According to the kununu data, they currently earn an annual income of 180,520 euros,” the statement says.

“This is followed by partners in companies with 159,021 euros and board members with 138,738 euros.” When it comes to career starters, development engineers (57,274 euros) and “other engineering professions” (53,196 euros) are at the top, followed by consulting activities (50,379 euros) and IT consultants ( 49,222 euros).”
