Representatives of the major Belgian and European farmers' associations will meet the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, the Belgian Prime Minister Alexander DeCroo and the Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte in the afternoon in Brussels.
Belgium's rotating EU presidency and Copa-Cogeca, the association that brings together EU agricultural cooperatives, made this known.
The confrontation comes after a day of high tension in Brussels, where over a thousand tractors blocked the streets of the European district while the extraordinary summit of EU leaders on the community budget was underway.
"It is fair to say that our farmers have shown resilience", underlined the president of the Commissioner, reiterating that .
Farmers can count on the support of the EU: we allocate almost a third of the EU budget and in 2023 alone we gave extraordinary assistance of 500 million euros to those affected by the crisis.
It is a fundamental support.
We now work together with Member States to respond to immediate challenges.
Now we must develop a road map for the future, to achieve climate neutrality, the strategic dialogue began last week."
