In the 2024 basket used by Istat to calculate the NIC (for the entire national community) and FOI (for the families of workers and employees) price indices, elementary products increase (1,915 elementary products compared to 1,885 in 2023 ), grouped into 1,045 products, which are in turn collected into 425 aggregates.
For the calculation of the IPCA index (harmonized at European level) the basket includes 1,936 elementary products (1,906 in 2023), grouped into 1,064 products and 429 aggregates.
This was communicated in the Istat note on the update of the basket.
Among the products most representative of the evolution of household consumption, which will enter the 2024 basket, there are: the air dehumidification and purification device, the smart light bulb and the all-you-can-eat meal.
Among those that represent consolidated consumption are: the hair straightener, the electric razor, the electric bed warmer and some recreational and sports courses (tennis or padel, water aerobics, football and five-a-side football).
Furthermore, to take into account the price dynamics of energy products of families in transition from the protected market to the free market, Istat has adapted the method of calculating the energy goods index,
