Princess Kate Middleton's three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, did not visit her in the hospital while she recovered from abdominal surgery.

While Prince William visited his wife during her 13-day stay at the private London clinic after the operation on January 16, their three children did not come to visit their mother.

"I think she didn't want to make a bigger deal out of it than it already was," biographer Ingrid Seward told People.

"She took them into consideration and did not want them to be in an unpleasant hospital situation."

Instead of a face-to-face visit, Kate kept in touch with her children via video calls, something she and Prince William regularly do when they are away from the children.

Children are generally not allowed to visit the London Clinic without permission from the hospital for the safety and health of the patients.

Kate was released from the hospital at the beginning of the week and returned to her home in Adelaide Cottage near Windsor Castle, where she was reunited with her children.

Kensington Palace said in a statement to the public that Kate is "recovering beautifully", but beyond that did not reveal any details about her condition or why Kate underwent the surgery.

The princess is expected to have a long recovery and is not expected to resume her public duties until Easter.

For now, she will be assisted by her parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, her sister Pippa Middleton and the children's old nanny.

William cleared his schedule to be by his wife's side and support their family during this time.

A close family friend said the Prince and Princess of Wales do not have "a large staff", and "as a result, William is really active".

"He doesn't want them to make mistakes with the next generation. He wants to give them a proper education and a lot of love. That's first and foremost for him," said the friend.
